The Arunachal Pradesh Police's crime branch has filed an FIR of sedition against former JNU student Sharjeel Imam for his alleged comments of cutting off north eastern states from the rest of India.

NEW DELHI: The Arunachal Pradesh Police's crime branch has filed an FIR of sedition against JNU student Sharjeel Imam for his alleged comments of cutting off north eastern states from the rest of India.
Confirming the development, RP Upadhyay, DGP (Arunachal Pradesh) said that the case is being probed by a special investigation team (SIT).
According to a senior state police officer, they had received information that an objectionable video was being circulated on social media platforms - i.e whatsapp , Facebook, Twitter etc - inciting secession of Assam and other NE states including Arunachal from rest of India.

The statement, police said, was aimed at creating communal disharmony and hampering the sovereignty and territorial Integrity of India.
"Accordingly, an FIR under sections 124(A), 153(A) and153(B) of the IPC has been registered," the officer added.
