State observes National Voters’ Day

Dimapur, Jan. 25 (EMN): Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland observed the 10th National Voters’ Day (NVD) 2020 on the theme ‘Electoral literacy for stronger democracy.’ The main purpose of the NVD celebration was to encourage, facilitate and maximise enrolment, especially for the new voters. Dedicated to the voters of the country, the day was utilised to spread awareness among voters for promoting informed participation in the electoral process.

Kohima: On the occasion of 10th National Voters’ Day programme, chief secretary, Temjen Toy, called upon all voters to be responsible in electing their leaders.

Toy stated that ECI along with all its officers in the states have been conducting and organising elections in all the constituencies across the country in order to conduct free and fair without any incidences. He mentioned that the ECI has gone a step forward by not only looking at the conduct of elections but by educating the voters through various awareness programmes.

Toy also appealed to the gathering to become missionaries of change in Nagaland starting with the electoral practices adding, ‘we cannot call ourselves electoral illiterate till if we do not empower our villagers, youths and women.’

Chief electoral officer (CEO), Abhijit Sinha, while highlighting on the significance of the National Voters’ Day, said the government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as ‘National Voters’ Day.’

The CEO stated that National Voters’ Day is observed basically to motivate, encourage and convince everyone to be a part of the electoral process by being enrolled, being aware of it functions, and be an informed voter about their candidates, their manifestoes and know that voting is free and fair and should not be influenced by caste, religion, community etc.

He further appealed to take the voters’ pledge and rededicated themselves honestly and to take effective participation in the electoral process to build a stronger democracy, a DIPR report stated on Saturday.

The best state-level BLO award was conferred to Yanrenthung Tsanglao, while the best state-level campus ambassador was awarded to Vito H Khulu.

The best district-level BLO awards were given to Neithongulie Nagi, Kevi Medo Sale, Ashenbu Kemp, Vitsetunuo Rupreo, Ayhun S Kath, Khrielehu and Videse Pucho.

CEO gave away EPICs and NVD badges to 11 new voters.              

Mon: National Voters’ Day (NVD) at Mon was observed in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner, Mon, in which the message of the Chief Election Commissioner was read by SDO (C) and AERO Chumlamo Humtsoe.

Newly enrolled electors and PwDs of the district were also felicitated on the occasion.

Best BLO for the year 2019 in respect of Mon district were awarded to Jakto Konyak, GT of GMS Oting village under 41 Tizit AC; Henyong Konyak, AT of GHS Wakching under 42 Wakching AC; RK Nomita Dev Konyak, AT of GPS Mon ‘C’ under 43 Tapi AC;  P Wanglang Konyak, H&PET of GMS Sheangha Wamsa village under 44 Phomching AC; Phopa Konyak, AT of GPS Chingkao Chingnyu under 45-Tehok AC; S Thopong Konyak, sectional assistant PWD (R&B) Mon under 46 Mon Town AC; Lemwang Konyak, SA PWD (R&B) Aboi under 47 Aboi AC; E Yanggang Konyak, AT of GPS Yonghong village under 48 Moka AC; and H Khoney Konyak, GT of EBRC Tobu under 55 Tobu AC. 

SDO (C) and AERO 46th Mon town AC, Illika Zhimomi, administered the voters’ pledge.

Mokokchung: National Voters’ Day in Mokokchung was held at town hall with the deputy commissioner, Mokokchung, Limawapang Jamir, as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner encouraged the youth to get enrolled in the electoral roll and involved in the democratic process of the nation building. To bring about changes, he stated that every eligible voter must actively participate in the election by casting their vote wisely.

Deputy commissioner also felicitated the newly enrolled voters and gave away the best BLO award for all the 10 constituencies in the district and administered the voters pledge.

Phek: National Voters’ Day in Phek was observed in the conference of the deputy commissioner, Phek, Sachin Jaiswal, deputy commissioner and district election officer, Phek, as the guest of honour.

Significance of NVD was shared by Tsuktimar Jamir, ADC and ERO Phek.

The DC gave away the best BLO awards and also distributed EPIC/ badges to newly enrolled electors. He also administered the NVD pledge.

Tuensang: Tuensang district, in collaboration with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), observed the National Voters’ Day at CKS hall, Tuensang town, with SDPO Tuensang Dr. Pritpal Kaur as the special guest.

SVEEP district Icon, Mongshai, and PwDs district icon, Chimong, also spoke on the occasion.

During the programme, SDO (Civil) Tuensang administered the NVD pledge and read the message from Election Commission of India. Altogether, twenty new enrolled girls voters were felicitated along with the seven best BLOs.

Dimapur: Dimapur District Public Relations Office (DPRO) observed the National Voters’ Day at its the office premises.

Addressing the staff, DPRO Dimapur, Lolano Patton stated that the National Voters Day was initiated by Election Commission of India to highlight the value and importance of every vote, a DIPR report stated.

“The main objective for observing the day is to encourage and maximise the enrolment of new voters who are above 18 years of age and also to encourage active participation of the active voters,” Patton stated.

She further told the gathering that the day is being observed to remind oneself on the value of each vote and also to encourage the youngsters above 18 years of age to enrol themselves and participate in the political process.

She further administered the voter’s pledge to the staff.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto district observed the National Voters’ Day in the conference hall of the deputy commissioners, Zunheboto.

Delivering a keynote address, Hito Sema, ADC and ERO, stressed that it should not only be the duty of the election officials and BLOs to bring about clean and fair elections. He added that all the leaders and civil societies should assist the officials in educating the people who are above 18 years to enrol themselves.

Special guest and deputy commissioner, Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo, also spoke on the importance of National Voters Day. He stated that the day is observed to educate all eligible voters to enrol themselves and exercise their rights. He further administered the pledge.

NVD Wokha
Orenthung Lotha felicitates the newly enrolled voters on the occasion of National Voters’ Day at Wokha town on January 25.

Wokha: Wokha observed the National Voters’ Day at Wokha town hall in which the deputy commissioner and district election officer, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha, read out the message of the Chief Election Commissioner.

ADC and Electoral Registration Officer, Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao delivered the keynote address.

On the occasion, Thungkhao from 38 Assembly Constituency under polling station 59 in Wokha village -VI and Augustine Odyuo from 37th Tiyi Assembly Constituency under polling station -31 Riphyim Old – III were awarded with the best booth level officers.

He also administered the pledge to the new voters.
