LOS ANGELES, Cal. (WTNH) — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed the first case of coronavirus in Los Angeles County Sunday. This is the second confirmation in California, along with another in Arizona, and one in Washington State.
In a tweet Sunday Morning, the Orange County Health Care Agency said they had received positive confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Saturday evening that an individual in Orange County tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to OC Health, the diagnosed individual is a traveler from Wuhan, China.
When they began to feel sick they call health authorities. The individual is now in isolation in a local hospital and is reported to be doing well.
Officials say there is no immediate threat to the general public.
This case in LA is the second in the state of California, along with another in Arizona, one in Washington state, and one in Chicago, Illinois, as well.
The Trump administration is now being urged to declare a formal Public Health Emergency.
Lawmakers are now calling for money to be freed up and sent to the CDC to help battle the virus before it becomes a pandemic in the U.S.
“There’s a longer period of time that a person can spread the disease, and if they can spread the disease for days before they become sick, then just quarantining those sick people is not a sufficient strategy.”
