UP: One die in Sitapur hooch tragedy

A 70-year-old died allegedly after consuming spurious liquor, while another took ill in Imaliya Sultanpur police station area of Sitapur district on late Sunday night.

LUCKNOW: A 70-year-old died allegedly after consuming spurious liquor, while another took ill in Imaliya Sultanpur police station area of Sitapur district on late Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Rajaram (70) of Rojha village in Imaliya Sultanpur police station area. Rajaram’s friend Ajay Bahadur Singh of the same village who had also consumed liquor has been referred to KGMU Trauma Center in Lucknow, said the police.

Police circle officer, Sitapur (Sadar) Mahendra Bahadur Singh said that Rajaram and Ajay Bahadur had consumed liquor in Dholemau village on late Sunday night. Later the duo complained of chest pain and vomiting.
“The duo were taken to the district hospital where Rajaram was declared brought dead while Ajay was shifted to KGMU Trauma in Lucknow,” said Singh.
He also said that a panel of doctors has been formed for conducting a postmortem examination of deceased Rajaram to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Sub divisional magistrate, Sadar, Amit Bhatt who reached the spot said that the shop supplying the liquor will be traced and samples will be seized for checking.
Eight months back, three persons had died due to consumption of illicit liquor in Sitapur.
