Google announces schedule for its Games Developer Summit at GDC 2020

Google announced Stadia, its game streaming platform in March 2019 at its Game Developer Conference (GDC) keynote. The service became available starting November 2019 and has been steadily adding games and functionality with time. However, the firm laid out its roadmap for 2020 earlier this month, with the company announcing that it will bring more than 120 games this year to Stadia, of which at least ten games will launch exclusively in the first half of the year.

Today, the search giant announced that its Google for Games Developer Summit is coming to GDC 2020. The conference is being held in San Francisco from March 16-20. Google is kicking off things with its keynote on March 16 at 9.30 AM Pacific. The company states that product leaders from across Google will “share the biggest announcements for game developers” followed by more sessions for developers and attendees through the two days. The Google booth at the Expo floor will provide demos and one-to-one meetings with product experts, the firm adds.

It is a given that through the conference, Google will show off the games coming to the platform in the near future and talk of the plans to expand the capabilities of the service. The company noted that it will be sharing more about its plans for GDC 2020 in the coming weeks. Those interested can sign up for updates here. Additionally, the company has also put up the schedule for the two days of sessions here.

With the acquisition of Typhoon Studios into its Stadia Games and Entertainment division, it will be interesting to see what Google has in store for users of the game streaming service. Its main competing game streaming platform, Microsoft’s Project XCloud, currently has an upper hand in terms of the library of games. Only time will tell as to how Google positions its service, how extensively it expands its game library, and what it has in store for developers.
