WACO, Texas (KXAN) — A student tested for coronavirus at Baylor University does not have it, health officials say.
The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District announced Monday test results were negative for Novel coronavirus for the Baylor student who has samples sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week.
The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that there are zero confirmed cases in Texas. The four that were being tested last week have all come back negative, according to a DSHS spokesperson.

“This is very good news,” Dr. Sharon W. Stern said, “and we are deeply grateful to our local and University health care providers and officials and the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District for their approach to this case, their proactive guidance and expertise and the compassionate care extended to our student while we awaited the CDC results.”
In a statement of Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement explaining the state’s commitment to keeping Texans safe from the virus.
“Through the coordinated efforts of our state agencies, Texas is working tirelessly to ensure every community has the resources and preventative measures needed to respond to the coronavirus. The Lone Star State will remain vigilant to protect the health and safety of all Texans.”

The governor’s office also included several tips for ways to avoid infection of coronavirus, including:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
