WWE wrestler Edge has made a stunning return to the ring at the Royal Rumble - 9 years after suffering a career ending injury.

The Rated R superstar drew number 21 in the men's rumble match tonight, stunning fans at the packed live event in Texas.

Edge, real name Adam Copeland, was forced to retire in 2011 thanks to a neck injury and fans thought he could never compete again.

Recent rumours suggesting he was making a comeback were confirmed tonight when he joined the 30 man match, one of the biggest in the WWE calendar.

He was eventually eliminated by Roman Reigns.

At 46-years-old, it's not known if this will be a one off or whether he is coming back to the wrestling company on a regular basis.

The hugely popular Canadian wrestler won 31 championships during his run in the WWE, which included high profile feuds with the likes of John Cena and Matt Hardy.

He also famously tagged with his 'brother' Christian, who has also retired from the company.

It was a double celebration for Copeland as his real life wife Beth Phoenix also made a comeback in the women's rumble match.

Earlier in the show, WWE's first big event of the year, The Fiend defeated Daniel Bryan and Becky Lynch retained her Raw championship against Asuka.
