Jack Monroe has sparked a fierce debate after appearing on This Morning to share some cash-saving food shopping tricks.

Viewers tuning into the ITV1 daytime favourite, hosted by Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on Friday, were left torn.

Many fans of the show were divided after the guest demonstrated how to make 12 meals for £5.

Budget cooking guru Jack was hailed by many viewers, with some suggesting the expert become a regular fixture on the ITV1 daytime show.

One tweeted: "Please give this amazing woman her own TV show. With all the financial strains today, this hero shows us that being frugal doesn't mean nutrition or taste have to be lost. Me and my husband value her recipes so much. Thank you Jack."

The comments came as  Jack impressively managed to make 12 different plates of food - including three main meals - all on a shoestring budget of a fiver, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A few of the meals she whipped up included creamy salmon, pea and lemon pasta, fruit and veg curry and mustard chicken with winter vegetables.

Another said: "Excellent! We need this as a regular slot: we have people using food banks yet the expectation in 2020 is for gourmet food. Jack is a complete genius and I use her recipes several times a week."

"The Jack Monroe slot was worth switching on for. Her bubbly personality was a tonic on this gloomy Friday and the food looked delicious and not too complicated to construct! You should make her slot a regular feature, even if it’s an end of the month money saving recipe," tweeted somebody else.

A fourth fan said: "Great to see such a great real home cook helping the nation with cheap and nutritious recipes. More of Jack please!"

"Please give Jack Monroe ...more airtime ... it's tough for a lot of families ...we need cooks like her," said yet another impressed viewer.

But the reception was not universally positive, as another chipped in with: "Good luck getting your kids to eat that slop!".

Another said: "I think it's safe to say no one will be making any of those dishes. Revolting."

"'That looks really posh'. It looks like a horse has thrown up in a casserole dish," a third wrote, with a fourth adding: "This is just junk I think most people's dogs eat better than that."
