Pucovski to captain CA XI against England Lions

By Daniel Cherny

Will Pucovski's leadership credentials will be on show next week with the young gun set to be named captain of a Cricket Australia XI to take on the touring England Lions.

CA are set to confirm on Wednesday that the emerging batting star will lead the invitational side in three matches against the Lions - England's 'A' side - at Gold Coast's Metricon Stadium.

The first match is on Sunday - Pucovski's 22nd birthday - before games next Tuesday and Thursday.

Melbourne Renegades leg-spinner Cameron Boyce will also be part of the CA XI squad.

Having taken three breaks from the game since the start of last season due to mental health issues, Pucovski has opted against joining a Big Bash League club, in part due to the travel toll of being part of the BBL.

Pucovski had been on the cusp of a Test debut earlier this season before making himself unavailable for national selection because of his health concerns.

However he has since returned to the Sheffield Shield and has been playing Premier cricket for Melbourne, while earlier this month appearing for a Victorian 2nd XI in the Future's League Twenty20 competition.
