You’ve seen the spectacular broadsheet size posters in the Fiji Sun the past few days.

Welcome to another example of market-leading and innovative growth by Fiji’s biggest newspaper.

Installation

It comes with the installation of a new DGM 1035 Folder on the Fiji Sun press at the Walu Bay Press Centre.

The folder is where all the different webs being printed come into the folder and come out as a completed section.

New Zealand newspaper production expert, Webco managing director Brendon Whitley, said: “It was made in Pennsylvania, USA.

“The new baby weighs in at over 10 tonnes compared to the old Folder at 3 tonnes.

“These size machines are used in printing sites in Auckland and Christchurch but the Sun has the extra capacity of being able to run

UV glossy pages at the same time as the standard paper creating efficiencies of having to run less sections for the larger papers and deadlines for the latest news and results, something many papers around the Pacific struggle with .

“The DGM Folder is also fitted with a magazine style Quarterfolder which will allow the print centre to turn out commercial quality magazine sections as found in the glossy magazines.

“For the Sun they will be able to mix sections of the paper and print them at the same time using a mix of printing stock, Newsprint , Bond and Glossy papers .

“They can also print Tabloid and Broadsheet at the same time as well as changing the order they come out.

“The Folder is fitted with the latest safety controls and protection systems.

“In production terms it makes the Suns Printing press as and in most cases more sophisticated as any single width press in Australasia or the Pacific. Great news for its customers.”

Fiji Sun Publisher /CEO Peter Lomas said it continues the visionary leadership of the Fiji Sun’s owners and the strong partnership with Webco from New Zealand .

He said: “We were the first to introduce computer-to-plate technology, first to introduce four-high colour towers, first to introduce UV glossy printing.

“Now with the new folder we can produce a range and mix of printing that no other newspaper in the region can match .”

The Fiji Sun’s production capacity is growing day by day.

It is increasingly recognised both here in Fiji and in the region.

The Fiji Sun has recently printed newspapers from Solomon Islands and Vanuatu as well as the local Mandarin- language China Mail newspaper.

The Fiji Sun Print Centre is not only a Fijian market leader . It is the leader in the region .
