SECUNDERABAD: Roads under the
Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have finally been repaired, much to the relief of commuters who travel through these stretches daily.
Over a lakh commuters pass through the roads that connect residential areas such as Safilguda, Mallikarjuna Nagar, Dayanand Nagar, Neredmet, Yapral, Balaji Nagar and adjoining areas. Even the roads near Safilguda Railway Gate and Army Railway Tracks are busy throughout the day.
The United Federation of Residential Welfare Associations (UFERWAS) had filed several complaints with the garrison engineer (north), SCB, urging the authorities concerned to repair the
potholes to avoid accidents.
“Traffic congestions during peak hours have become a daily affair on Ordnance Road near Safilguda Railway Gate. Vehicles often get damaged as vehicles move slowly and it put a lot of pressure on the engine and brakes,” UFERWAS general secretary BT Srinivasan told TOI.
The Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) had appealed to the army authorities several times, but no action was taken. Last monsoon, many motorists met with road accidents and were badly injured due to the bad roads especially beside the army railway tracks, Srinivasan said.
“Finally, the garrison engineer (north) took note of our complaints and initiated repair of the roads. The workers filled up all the potholes with bitumen,” Srinivasan pointed out.
“The patchwork is a temporary fix and the SCB authorities should take up complete re-carpeting works. This will ensure a smoother ride for commuters,” said a resident of Safilguda, P Kamalakar.
