AGRA: Aligarh district administration has declared two former AMU students as “Goondas” and expelled them from the district for six months for their alleged involvement in crimes in the district. Besides, three other ex-students of the varsity have also been issued notices.
The two, who had been expelled from Aligarh, were identified as Nadeem Ansari, former AMU students’ union vice-president, and Amir Mintoe alias Mohammad Aamir, who is also an ex-student of the university.
Those who were issued notices for invoking the Goondas Act include Huzaifa Amir, former secretary of the students’ union, Hamza Sufiyan, former vice-president of students’ union, and Vakar Naga, an ex-student.
Barring Nadeem Ansari, all other were named in the FIRs registered against protesters, including AMU students, for their alleged involvement in the violence that erupted on the university campus on December 15. Vakar Naga, who was named in two FIRs in the December 15 violence, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on January 28.
A case under the Uttar Pradesh Control of Goondas Act, 1970, was being heard in the additional district magistrate (city) court, which ordered their expulsion on Thursday.
Confirming this, Aligarh DM CB Singh said that the two have been expelled from Aligarh for a period of six months, as they have “become a threat to the general public due to their criminal activities”.
According to an administrative official, Nadeem Ansari was booked four times under various sections of IPC in 2017, 2018, and 2019. This brought him under the category of a habitual criminal. Similarly, Mohammad Aamir was booked for three consecutive years under various sections of IPC, including attempt to murder, in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Singh said that the district administration is committed to ensuring continuous strict action against people with a criminal history. Therefore, similar action will be taken in the future against the mafia and criminals under the Goondas Act, besides considering their expulsion from the district.
Nadeem Ansari told reporters that such steps are being taken by the authorities to weaken the movement against CAA/NRC. “In order to end the protest in the district, they are invoking the Goondas Act against people actively involved in such protests” he said. Mintoe said that he has not received any notice so far, but if it is true, then he would like to thank the government for putting him in the category of revolutionary leaders, who were expelled from the district during the British period.
