KOLHAPUR: Water supply to the entire city will be affected for two days from Monday owing to the repair work of the main pipeline that has been damaged.
In addition, officials will also carry our repair work of the electric installations in the pumping stations.
Authorities said that A, B, C and D wards will face water cuts owing to the repair work of the main pipeline. The water supply department of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has reported major leakages to two pipelines carrying water to high rise tanks in the Aptenagar area.

The work of repairing these pipelines will be carried out on Monday and will be completed on the same day, said authorities. Owing to the repair work, the water supply to the A and B wards will be cut off, the added.
Areas such as Lakshtirth Vasahat, Saneguruji Vasahat, Kanerkar Nagar, Devkar Panand and rural and fringe areas will be affected. Officials claim that the water supply to these areas will resume by Monday mid-night if both the leakages are repaired. They said that even if one pipeline is repaired, the water supply to the A and B wards can be resumed, but, in that case, the areas will receive water at the low pressure.
The Balinga pumping station which supplies water to C and D wards is not functioning properly, said authorities. “At times, the pumps stop functioning, and, this time, the glitches have been reported in the electric installations of the pumping station,” they said.

A senior water supply official said, “We are going to replace the pumps soon. The pumping capacity will also be upgraded. Accordingly, we are going to carry out installation of the electric set up. The existing installations are not effective and get tripped several times. Such on and off behaviour of the electricity installations may damage the pumps. We are working with the engineers of the electricity department to get the electric installations replaced which will take at least two days.”
Owing to the works to be carried out at Balinga pumping station, the areas under C and D ward along with some sections of E ward will be affected. Areas such as Dudhali, Gangavesh, Uttareshwar Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Bindu Chowk, Mahalaxmi temple, Mirajkar Tickti in C and D wards will not receive water. Also, areas falling under E ward such as Shahupuri lane 5 and 6, Parvati Talkies, Kumbhar Galli and Udyamnagar too will not receive water.
