At least seven people died following a gas leak incident at a carpet manufacturing factory in Sitapur district on Thursday.

LUCKNOW: At least seven people died following a gas leak incident at a carpet manufacturing factory in Sitapur district on Thursday.
The incident was reported from Lalpur village of Biswan police station area of the district.
District magistrate Akhilesh Tiwari who visited the spot confirmed that all the deceased were working as labourers in the factory.

Tiwari said that efforts were on to stop the spread of the poisonous gas in the village while villagers were being evacuated to safety.
Several teams of fire brigade and police are at the spot to assess the situation and to carry out rescue work.
The state disaster relief force has also been called for assistance.
The officer said that prima facie it appears that the gas leaked from a chamber of the carpet factory.
