GAYA: More than 200 delegates from different parts of the country are attending the three-day ‘All-India English Teachers’ Conference’, which began in Magadh University (MU) on Thursday.
This is for the first time that the annual conference is being organized in Bihar. Its theme is ‘An Overview of Literatures in English Language: Continuity and Departure’.
Delivering the keynote address during the inaugural session, Nalanda University vice-chancellor (VC) Sunaina Singh exhorted the participants to religiously follow the teaching protocol and enter the classrooms fully prepared.
She regretted that the level of dedication among teachers had diminished and the trend needed early and effective reversal.
The VC also denounced the tendency to look westward for quality literature. She said, “With a 5000-year-long history, the Indian literary treasure is very rich. For a long time, India enjoyed the position of ‘vishva guru’. It is high time we rediscovered our country’s glorious past and lived it once again.”
MU VC Rajendra Prasad requested littérateurs to spread the message of love and compassion. He said, “The atmosphere of hate has to be replaced with mutual love and respect.”
Referring to the threat posed to human existence by global warming, he pointed out it was the responsibility of littérateurs to create awareness about its dangers.
Delivering the presidential address, C P Singh, former head of the postgraduate department of English in MU, said literature was the spontaneous outflow of human emotions.
