HYDERABAD: TruJet, a regional scheduled air carrier promoted by Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructures, has become the first air carrier to connect to Bidar airport in Karnataka.

Chief minister Yeddyurappa on Friday inaugurated the service in Bengaluru and flew in the same flight to Bidar and back. This comes days after GMR Airports signed an agreement earlier this week to operate and maintain the civilian enclave at Bidar airport under the Udan, or Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik, regional connectivity scheme.

Bidar is the 24th destination in TruJet’s network.

The carrier, which has a fleet of seven ATR-72 aircraft, currently operates two-thirds of its flights to airports under the regional connectivity scheme.

It claims to be the only air carrier to fully operationalise all the routes it was awarded under the three phases of RCS so far.

“We have charted a sustainable growth strategy to become a strong regional air bridge between the emerging economic centres of our country,” said Col LSN Murty, chief executive of Turbo Megha Airways that owns TruJet.
