NEW DELHI: Kalkaji seat witnessed a triangular contest among Aam Aadmi Party's Atishi Marlena, BJP's Dharamveer Singh and Congress's Shivani Chopra. However, AAP's star candidate defeated BJP's Dharamveer Singh by 11,393 votes.

A lawyer banking on her father's legacy in the Congress, an Oxford graduate attempting her luck for the second time in elections on an AAP ticket and a BJP candidate relying on his party's aggressive campaign are the three major contenders in the Kalkaji constituency for the Delhi polls.
Shivani Chopra, the younger daughter of three-time Congress MLA and its Delhi unit chief Subhash Chopra, is hopeful of leveraging the party veteran's legacy. Pitted against the Congress' woman candidate is AAP's Atishi, who unsuccessfully fought the Lok Sabha polls from East Delhi last year. Completing the triangular contest is BJP's Dharamveer Singh, who feels the Modi government's works in Delhi will give his party an edge.
The ruling party seeks a second term under the leadership of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. AAP has given tickets to 46 of its sitting MLAs besides introducing 15 new faces to the fray.
The BJP is contesting on 67 of the 70 assembly seats, leaving two seats for its National Democratic Alliance partner the Janata Dal (United) and one for the Lok Janshakti Party. Among the 67 BJP candidates, over 30 are former legislators or have contested the assembly elections in the past.
The Congress, which ruled Delhi for three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013, is for the first time contesting the Delhi assembly polls in alliance with another party. The party has worked an alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) who will contest on four seats.
