PATNA: CPI leader and former JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar’s convoy faced the wrath of some supporters of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) once again in the state. The incident took place in Jamui district on Monday.
According to reports reaching the police headquarters, a group of CAA supporters threw eggs and sprinkled lubricants on the vehicle carrying Kanhaiya at Mahisiri Chowk near Adha in Jamui district.
The former JNUSU leader was on his way to Aliganj from the district headquarters to address a public meeting against CAA, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
Vehicular traffic on the Jamui-Sikandara Road remained affected for more than half an hour due to the protest against Kanhaiya’s visit to Jamui by some CAA supporters. His convoy left for the destination after the intervention of senior police officers.
“Nothing untoward happened with Kanhaiya, who is in Jamui to garner support for his ‘Jan Gana Mana’ rally in Patna,” a police officer said.
Kanhaiya, who is spearheading the anti-CAA, NRC and NPR campaign in the state, had earlier faced protests in Saran and Supaul districts. The CPI leader had reached Jamui on Sunday and stayed at the circuit house in the night. On Monday, he left for Aliganj, but his convoy was intercepted near Mahisiri Chowk by some youths, who shouted ‘Go back, Kanhaiya’ slogans.
