13 killed in bus-truck collision in UP’s Firozabad

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has meanwhile directed the DM and the SP to ensure proper rescue operation and treatment at the hospitals. He has directed the hospital staff to provide all the needed treatment to the injured.

Fourteen passengers were killed and 45 others injured after a private bus they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Firozabad district late Wednesday night. Seven of the injured passengers, who have been admitted to Saifai PGI, were reported to be in a critical condition. Sixteen injured people were discharged from hospital after treatment.

The bus was heading towards Motihari in Bihar from Delhi. Most of the deceased belonged to Bihar. According to police, the bus was carrying around 55-60 passengers. The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Kumar (26), Vinod Kumar (25), Kalmuddin (45), Bhagwan Chaudhary (54), Harendra Paswan (44), Chandan Mathur (24), Nageshwar Shah (42), Gulshan Kumar (21), Anil Shah (50), Rakesh (35), Ishtiyaq (30) and truck driver Bhura (45) . Two persons are yet to be identified.

“The incident took place at the 71-km milestone on Agra-Lucknow Expressway around 10 pm. There was a truck parked on the roadside and the driver of the bus could not see it. The bus rammed into the truck. We have made the arrangements for the proper treatment of the injured. We are helping the families in every possible way and have also made arrangements for transportation if needed,” said Firzoabad SP Sachindra Patel.

Photos circulating on social media showed that the front side of the bus was completely crushed. After several hours of rescue operation, officials managed to extricate many bodies from the mangled remains of the bus.

Kamlashankar, station house officer (SHO) of Nagla Khangar police station, said an FIR has been registered against an unidentified bus driver for rash and negligent driving. He added that though it was confirmed that both the drivers died, they could not be identified.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident two persons died after a mini bus they were traveling in collided with a truck in Mainpuri district. Those in the bus belonged to the same family and were on their way to attend a ‘tilak’ ceremony. Seven people were been injured in the accident and were admitted at Saifai Medical College.

According to a statement by Mainpuri police, the incident took place on Sirsaganj Road and those in the bus were on their way to Ravidaspur area. The deceased have been identified as Chandrabhan and Rajbahadur. The bus driver was among the injured, while the truck driver reportedly escaped.
