LUCKNOW: With the arrest of four persons including a cop, Azamgarh police claimed to have cracked a gang of card cloners who stole the data of ATM card users by using a card reader at the ATM machines.
Once the data was copied it was transferred on a blank card to siphon off the money.
The gang specially targeted ATM machines in rural and deserted areas.
Using the latest cloning devices first they used to copy data from the ATM machine and get access to the secret pin using hidden cameras, said the police.
Those arrested have been identified as
Sandeep Yadav,
Rakesh Yadav,
Abresh Kumar and
Amit Yadav.
Rakesh was also working as a constable and was sacked after his name surfaced in the incident.
They were arrested on the basis of location and electronic surveillance from Mubarakpur police station area, said the police.
Explaining the case, superintendent of police, Azamgarh, Triveni Singh said the gang bought card readers and writers for Rs 20,000 from popular online shopping websites. “These gadgets are easily available on online shopping portal and YouTube is flooded with tutorials for such scam. Best way to stay safe is by being aware and cautious,” Singh said.
They even got blank cards to load stolen card data for as cheap as Rs 17 per card.
