3 deer found dead in Bankura
Bankura: The carcass of three deer in Boropukuria, within the sprawling Mukutmanipur Deer Park in the Ranibandh forest range on Thursday led to wide-spread protests. Senior forest officials feel the three, which had visible marks of injuries, had been attacked by dogs or wild boars. Bijoy Kumar, DFO (Bankura South), said, “It appears to be a wild boar or dog attack.
The deer had escaped the nets with hem the deer park leading to the incident. A high-level enquiry has been ordered.”
Locals alleged that the net which was set up in 1982 has been torn apart at many places and no steps have been taken to repair or replace it. The Mukutmanipur Deer Park is a major tourist destination which is slowly seeing a rapid fall in its deer population which was around 150 before, locals alleged. The locals also staged a protest.
