Two rescued from ocean near Sunset Beach early Monday

SUNSET BEACH, NC  (WWAY) — Two people are alive after being pulled from the ocean off the coast of Brunswick County early Monday morning

The Sunset Beach Fire Department tweeted that they assisted Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department around 3 a.m. in the search for two people in Tubbs Inlet.

SBFD says the two had lost power on a jet ski and capsized.

Tubbs Inlet is located in between Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach.

SBFD says surf conditions were rough and the tide was turning out, which led the two victims being pulled out to open water.

Lieutenant Kluttz and Firefight Pollich were able to find the two victims and the jet ski off shore in the ocean. SBFD says only one had on a life jacket.

The victims were brought to shore to be evaluated by Brunswick County EMS.

“It takes skill, technology, and experience to make rescues like this one, otherwise, the result would have been tragic,” SBFD tweeted.
