Trump critic Arnold Schwarzenegger thanks the president for addressing California homelessness
February 17, 2020
The two have certainly had their differences
Hollywood actor and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) expressed his gratitude toward President Donald Trump and his administration's efforts to combat California's homelessness crisis last week, offering noteworthy praise despite his past criticisms of the president.
What are the details?
"Everyone knows @realDonaldTrump & I have our disagreements," Schwarzenegger wrote on Twitter. "But I want to thank you for sending @SecretaryCarson to our homelessness summit. We'll only solve this if everyone works together. This issue is bigger than all of us. Now is time for action."
Fox News reported that U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson participated in a homelessness summit in Los Angeles on Friday. The outlet followed Sec. Carson as he toured housing facilities and relief organizations in California while assessing the crisis firsthand.
Sec. Carson told Fox News the administration plans to take action to assist with California's homelessness "within a matter of weeks," adding, "We're not talking months and years."
Last month, President Trump tweeted that California's current Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) "has done a really bad job on taking care of the homeless population" in the state. "If he can't fix the problem, the Federal Govt. will get involved!" the president added.
President Trump has blamed overregulation and liberal agendas for California's homelessness epidemic, while Schwarzenegger has specifically pointed to the environmental movement's "no-growth" push as a reason so many people in California are living on the streets and unable to afford housing.
Anything else?
Schwarzenegger, an avowed environmentalist, has criticized President Trump in the past for the president's support of the coal industry. The Hill reported that the two have "repeatedly" sparred on social media in recent years despite previously being friends.
