PATNA: The Muzaffarpur police on Monday claimed to have cracked the case related to the murder of a 65-year-old retired officer of registration department, Ajay Kumar Sharma, and his wife Renu (60), following the arrest of their former domestic help, Nitesh Kumar.
The duo was found murdered with a blunt weapon at their residence under the Brahmpura police station area in Muzaffarpur on January 8.
The murder of the elderly couple, stated to be close relatives of a senior IPS officer posted at the state police headquarters, had sent shock waves among the residents of the town.
Muzaffarpur city SP Niraj Kumar said Nitesh had confessed to the crime and revealed that he was furious after Renu misbehaved with him over some issue. “Although I had lost my job almost a year ago, I used to work in the house on certain occasions. The greed to make a fast buck coupled with misbehaviour compelled me to killed them,” he reportedly told the interrogators.
Nitesh had escaped with Rs 50,000 and the couple’s cellphone from the house. He disclosed that he purchased a motorbike for Rs 34,500 and spent the remaining amount on other articles. The bike and the stolen cellphone were seized from the possession of Nitesh.
The city SP told mediapersons, “Two suspects were, earlier, sent to jail in connection with the incident and Nitesh was under the surveillance of the special investigation team, headed by DSP Naresh Paswan. Police swung into action and arrested him as soon as evidences corroborating his involvement in the double murder case were found.”
Nitesh was produced before the local court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. “The investigating officer has been asked to take Nitesh on remand for further interrogation in the case. All the three accused will be quizzed again in the wake of fresh evidences,” the city SP added.
