Former FICCI president V L Dutt dies in Chennai

CHENNAI: Former president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) Dr V L Dutt died in Chennai on Tuesday, said a statement from the FICCI.
Dutt headed the industry body in 1991-92.
"We condole the untimely passing away of Dr V L Dutt. FICCI will always remember his contribution to the industry and the country, especially as the president of the chamber at a time when the economy was passing through a critical phase.
He was instrumental in bridging the gap between the industry and the government. His memory will continue to inspire entrepreneurs in India and abroad as an outstanding entrepreneur and a corporate statesman,” FICCI president Dr Sangita Reddy said in the statement.
Dr Dutt was chairman of the India Vietnam Joint Business Council of FICCI. A graduate from Business Institute of Management, London, Dutt was the chairman of The K C P Group of companies, engaged primarily in cement, sugar, and heavy machinery.
In appreciation of his outstanding contribution in the area of rural development, medical care, education and industry, he was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of letters by the Nagarjuna University. Dutt was also the honorary consul general of the Republic of Turkey in Chennai.
