AGRA: Mathura district police on Tuesday booked Shubham Chaudhary, who set his own car on fire outside the SSP office in September last year, under the National Security Act (NSA). Chaudhry has been behind bars for the past five months and NSA charges were slapped on him after he applied for bail recently.
Mathura SSP Shalabh Mathur told TOI that the case was registered against Chaudhary as there were apprehensions of breach of public peace if he was released from jail.
Mathur said the suspect had earlier opened fire in the air at a public place besides burning his vehicle in front of the district court and police office.
According to police, 23-year-old Shubham had created ruckus on September 25, after his dalliance with a married woman, Anjula Sharma was exposed. He had fired in the air and threatened that the woman accompanying him would shoot herself if anyone tried to stop him. Police later managed to nab him and the married woman, who was accompanying him. Both were booked by the police under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 7 CLA Act.
The SSP told TOI that Shubham was scheduled to get engaged to a local girl a day before his arrest but the same did not materialize as Anjula’s husband disclosed his relationship with his wife to the girl. He had then decided to take revenge from Anjula’s husband by accusing him for all wrongdoings and took this step, he told police during interrogation.
On September 25, Shubham Chaudhary dressed in a lawyer’s attire, set his vehicle S-Cross (UP-50-CI-7533) on fire in the evening. He had come there along with Anjula Sharma and her three children. They claimed themselves to be representative of a Pvt Ltd company. The accused had a portable public address system and addressed the people standing on the road. He talked about corruption in the country and the political system and hurled abuses at the politicians of the day.
