HYDERABAD: In a tragic accident, a man was run over by a car, driven by a housewife, near Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad, while he was on the way to drop his son at school on Wednesday morning. The child too suffered head injuries and is in a critical condition. The erring driver, Sarvaoshri S, was arrested subsequently, police said.
The victim, Babu Giridhar, 40, a marketing manager in a private bank, was a resident of Padmarao Nagar.
“Around 8.20am, Giridhar started from his home towards the school in West Marredpally on his bike, when a Honda Brio car coming from opposite direction hit his vehicle. The victim fell on the footpath and sustained head injury,” Tukaramgate police said.
“The bike suddenly came in front of the car and Sarvaoshri rammed into the bike. Giridhar fell on the footpath and his head directly hit the corner of the pavement. He died on the spot,” police said.
Even though the victim was wearing a helmet, the headgear came off due to the impact. Giridhar’s seven-year-old son Kartikaiah, who was pillion rider, also sustained head injuries and was shifted to Apollo Hospital.
The woman was travelling from Sangeet Junction towards East Marredpally. She has been booked under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.
