The manager of a hairdressers has replaced celebrity gossip magazines in her salon with adult colouring books following the death of Caroline Flack.

Amelia Herbert, who is the manager of Watkins Wright in Great Ayton, made the decision after feeling sad about the former Love Island presenter passing away.

The 28-year-old said she heard about another salon in Nottingham removing celebrity filled magazines and decided to get on board.

She swapped the "chatty" magazines in her shop with adult colouring books and a mindfulness book.

The only magazines she now has in her salon are food and travel publications.

Amelia, who has been working at the salon for 14 years, said: "This weekend I felt so sad, I don't know why it's felt so close to home.

"I have grown up watching Caroline Flack. I didn't watch Love Island this time because she wasn't on it.

"She was Love Island and Love Island is massive, that's why it has affected a lot of the younger generation.

"I think she was probably the last person you would have thought would have done something like this.

"I just felt really sad, I thought oh my goodness what next."

Magazines have been replaced with adult colouring books

Amelia, from Guisbrough, said that clients are behind her decision to remove the gossip magazines from the salon.

She said: "We have had such a positive reaction from clients, they have loved it.

"The feedback we have had has been great.

"One of our clients, who spent 40 minutes colouring in, said 'I haven't been this relaxed in years'.

"If our staff and clients sit and have their mindfulness for 45 minutes while their colours on they're going to be in a better place."

Amelia now hopes that other salons in the area will do the same.

She said: "Social media needs to be used properly and we need to remember to be kind - I think that's the big thing.

"If our industry stopped feeding people with this rubbish and swapped it with positivity, how amazing is that going to be.

"I hope that all salons in Teesside and North Yorkshire get on the back of it and get rid of them."

Caroline Flack was found dead at her UK home on Saturday, February 15.

She passed away just weeks before she was due to stand trial for assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton.

He did not support the prosecution.
