SECUNDERABAD: In a step towards reducing the commuting woes of people in Secunderabad, officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have proposed to carry out improvement work at three junctions in Secunderabad zone. Work amounting to Rs 156 crore will be taken up. The West Maredpally junction, Rasoolpura junction and Sangeet junction are the three junctions that will see elaborate improvement works.

Widening of roads is one of the most important components of the proposed works and will be done by acquiring properties at all the junctions. Once the roads are widened, secondary works such as installation of circular junction boxes and beautification works will also be taken up. An agency has also been assigned to take up the work.
Officials said that once improvement works along the three junctions are completed, traffic going towards Secunderabad from Begumpet will be able move at a quicker pace and the amount of traffic snarls can be greatly reduced.
“The improvement plan has been verified with reference to the 2010 Master Plan of Secunderabad Zone,” said a GHMC official. “The detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared for Rasoolpura Junction and Sangeet Junction. The number of properties acquired can be rolled out only after DPR,” he added.
In case of the West Maredpally junction, officials have estimated that 30 properties will be acquired for the completion of the project.
Though Sangeet junction has already had its share of beautification works, road widening will be taken up as part of the new plan. Officials said that Rasoolpura junction sees high footfall due to the presence of the Metro station and Consulate General of the United States, Hyderabad.
