Brandonites will have the opportunity to learn how old technology worked — by tearing it apart.
The Brandon General Museum and Archives is hosting Dissecting Technology on Saturday evening — an event promoting learning and curiosity through dismantling old technology such as keyboards, wired mice, calculators and old radios.
This is the first time the BGMA has held an event like this, administrator Aly Wowchuk said.
“We’re trying to be more involved with the community … we thought we’d branch out a little and offer something different. It offers a space of exploration to talk about how technology has evolved over the years.”
After a safety discussion and a presentation on the evolution of technology, attendees will be free to dig into a variety of old gadgets, Wowchuk said, donated by a few local businesses looking for a place to recycle their own items.
All tech items will be recycled after the event.
“We have a good variety of stuff, so there’s going to be plenty to look at,” Wowchuk said.
There are limited spots available due to space limitations, Wowchuk said, but as of Wednesday there were still quite a few spots left.
Entry is $10, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
“We have a couple families coming in. We surprisingly have a lot of adults signing up for it,” Wowchuk said with a laugh. “I don’t know what that says, but I think it’s cool that there’s a lot of different people interested.”
The event runs Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
