Goose Creek police say a joint operation involving multiple agencies that targeted alleged child predators resulted in seven arrests with nearly two dozen more expected.(Video above: Friday 6 p.m. headlines)Goose Creek Police Chief L.J. Roscoe made the announcement Thursday morning at a news conference on a sting dubbed “Operation Caught in the Creek,” which was a collaboration of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.“Over the course of the five days we were able to take six people immediately into custody,” Roscoe said. “One additional subject has subsequently been taken into custody. And there are 21 additional offenders that will be taken into custody upon completion of our investigations.”She said the initial six arrests were for people she called “travelers,” who went to a specific location for “the sole purpose of having sex with an underage child.” They range in age from 24 to 49 years old.The named at the news conference are:Matthew Hagan, 26, of RidgevilleAustin Ostrander, 24, of SummervilleSeann Peters, 49, of Moncks CornerKent Turkoly, 39, of Goose CreekJoey Clark, Jr., 27, of St. GeorgeOtis Miller, 38, of Goose CreekA total of 21 criminal warrants were filed against the original six people arrested, she said.A seventh person, listed as Anthony Hale, 24, was also arrested, Roscoe said.Specific charges against each were not immediately available.“The ages of the children they thought they were coming to have sex with was either 13 or 14 years old," Roscoe said. "These men were very specific in communicating via the internet, what they wanted and expected.”The majority of those arrested distributed pornographic pictures to people they believed were underage children, she said. Once taken into custody, some of the men were found to be in possession of child pornography or had videos containing bestiality, some of which resulted in additional charges, she said.“With our children becoming more and more involved and dependent on technology every day, I encourage parents to pay attention and ask questions,” Roscoe said. “This operation proves that there are predators out there lurking.”The operation took place between Feb. 12 and this past Sunday, according to Goose Creek Police Capt. Thomas Hill.The Berkeley, York and Marion County Sheriff’s Offices, Mount Pleasant police, the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and NCIS were among the agencies throughout the state that joined Goose Creek police, which initiated the operation, Hill said.
