RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — With snow and rain bringing freezing temperatures with it, many across our area were without power Thursday night into Friday morning.

In Wake County alone, more than 7,500 Duke Energy customers were without power at one point on Friday morning.

As of Thursday night, nearly 4,000 were without power in Wake County but that number was cut nearly in half by 4:30 a.m. when 1,870 customers remained without power. Unfortunately, that number jumped up to more than 7,500 customers later in the morning. By 11:30 a.m., only 81 customers were still without electricity.

Some outages were caused by equipment going offline and others by downed trees or vehicles crashing into equipment, according to Duke Energy’s website. Restoration time has been established for some outages, but not all.

In Wayne County, more than 2,500 customers were without power Thursday night, while in Franklin County more than 2,400 customers were without power. By 4:30 a.m. there were 1,060 customers without power in Franklin County and 1,224 in Wayne County. Just under 600 customers remained without power in Franklin County by 7:30 a.m. and just over 150 were still in the dark in Wayne County. By 11:30 a.m., more than 430 in Franklin County and just five in Wayne County still had no power.

Nearly 600 were without power in Durham and Orange counties at 11:30 a.m.

The numbers were far higher on Thursday night for all of central North Carolina.

Jeff Brooks of Duke Energy said via Twitter on Thursday night that crews had already restored power to thousands of customers.

More than 9,700 Duke Energy customers were without power across the state as of 7:45 a.m. By 11:30 a.m. that number had dropped to just over 2,580.
