Ethan Ampadu's superlative UEFA Champions League performance in midweek, when he completely marked Dele Alli out of the Tottenham v Leipzig tie, has started to earn the Welsh teenager rave reviews across the continent.

But, of course, here in Wales we already knew how good he was... as is the case for a glut of young stars given their head by Ryan Giggs in recent months.

Wales will head into Euro 2020 this summer somewhat under the radar, and with Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey obviously the men who will capture most headlines.

But Ampadu is one of a plethora of Wales teens and early TwentySomethings who could light up the tournament and see their transfer values absolutely skyrocket.

We take a look at the gifted Welsh young guns, including Ampadu, who could set tongues wagging during the summer...

ETHAN AMPADU (Chelsea/RB Leipzig) age 19

His performance against Spurs was so mature it belied the fact he is still learning the game.

Played as sweeper at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a role he used to perform at age-grade level with Wales, but Giggs obviously sees him as Joe Allen's central midfield partner.

On loan to the German title chasers from Chelsea, Ampadu has actually played almost as many matches for Wales this season as he has done Leipzig.

But he has shone in their last two games, wins over Werder Bremen and Spurs, and looks certain to get more match time building towards the Euros.

His range of passing, composure and reading of the game against Jose Mourinho's side was top drawer.

Ampadu has so much promise, his transfer market could rocket through the £40m mark with starring performances against Switzerland, Turkey and Wales - there aren't many as accomplished in midfield as they are in defence, like he is.

But Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has picked a number of youngsters as part of his Blues revolution and surely he'll want Ampadu back to be a key part of that?

JOE RODON (Swansea City) age 22

Joe Rodon

The football website TransfrMarket put his current value at £2.25m. Expect the figure the Swans will demand to be ten times that should Rodon, as expected, become another Welsh young gun to stamp his mark on the Euros.

Big, strong, good in the air, comfortable on the ball, tangling with Europe's finest strikers will take his game and confidence to a new level.

Put simply, he is too good for the Championship.

The question, I suppose, is at what standard of team Rodon might end up playing in.

Informed sources tell me he has been recommended to Manchester United on more than one occasion, although they are said to have certain doubts. Let's see how that plays out.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal have each been monitoring Rodon's progress.

Everton, Leicester and Bournemouth are also interested.

If he stars, as expected, for Wales, a big-money move during the summer to one of those mid-ranked clubs might be on as the next part of Rodon's career development.

But don't totally rule out one of the giants swooping for him and testing the transfer water with Swansea.

DAVID BROOKS (Bournemouth) age 22

David Brooks' season has been wrecked by injury

He may not have played a single game this season, but let's not forget just how good the current Wales Footballer of the Year is.

His creativity, ability to beat defenders and goal threat is made for the biggest stage and he really does possess the class to stand out this summer.

First, though, Bournemouth's £11m signing from Sheffield United needs to prove his fitness.

An ankle injury, that was originally expected to keep him out for the first 12 weeks of the campaign, has proven more troublesome than anticipated and he has yet to get a minute of Cherries action under his belt.

But Bournemouth hope Brooks will be back this spring. If so, you can rest assured he will be in Giggs' squad - and with a huge role to play. At least he'll be fresh.

Brooks has been linked with a £50m move to either Tottenham or Manchester United.

Enough said, really.

DANIEL JAMES (Man Utd) age 22

Daniel James has made a big impact at Old Trafford

He is the opposite to Brooks, with 38 matches already behind him this season in the pressure cooker that is Manchester United amid fears of burnout come the summer.

James' stock has soared since leaving Swansea for the Old Trafford giants, although he has unfairly come in for recent criticism.

He should never have been one of the main men expected to shoulder the burden at United this season, but his early season brilliance meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer relied upon him.

Won't be going anywhere after the Euros, of course, given he's already with the biggest club in the country.

But expect his star to continue rising this summer. James has the searing pace and goal threat to trouble even the finest full-backs on the continent.

HARRY WILSON (Bournemouth) age 22

They can't each play in the team, of course, given Bale, Ramsey and Kieffer Moore have to start... meaning only one of Brooks, James or Wilson will line-up next to those three in the advanced positions for Wales.

But Wilson is another with ability to burn and a season on loan with Bournemouth from Liverpool, where he has scored seven Premier League goals to date, has seen his career continue on an upward path following a dazzling year with Derby when he hit a hugely impressive 18 goals.

Whether Wilson starts for Wales this summer, or has a role as a super-sub, he's another young gun ready to make his mark.

Wales' Harry Wilson faces a decision over his Liverpool future this summer

What happens then is anyone's guess.

Joe Allen was in the team of the tournament at Euro 2016, but was still moved on by Jurgen Klopp, who preferred Jordan Henderson.

And who, in hindsight, can say that was the wrong decision?

Wilson is desperate for his chance with Liverpool,  but with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane leading the Reds' title rampage first team opportunities do look limited.

Liverpool may sell Wilson to a mid-table club... but they are good in the transfer market and will probably demand - and get - £25m-plus.

If he scores goals at the Euros, expect that price tag to increase further.

CHRIS MEPHAM (Bournemouth) age 22

Yet another 22-year-old, Giggs quickly made him his first-choice centre-back ahead of regular skipper Ashley Williams.

It was a hugely bold call, but the decision has paid off handsomely. Mepham quickly offered a new dimension at the back with his class, composure, pace, heading ability and leadership qualities of his own.

Mepham and Rodon can become Wales' centre-back pairing for the next decade.

Started the season in Bournemouth's team, but lost his way, got injured and needs regular football again to ensure match sharpness this summer.

Many felt he was an Arsenal centre-half in the making, but just being a Bournemouth regular again as he recovers from a knee problem would suit Mepham right at this moment in tme.

What could his value be with a good Euros?

Who knows?

CONNOR ROBERTS (Swansea City) age 24

Connor Roberts will no doubt attract interest this summer

He's positively the old man of this group at the tender age of just 24 years old!

There are parts of his defensive game Giggs wants to work on before the opener with Switzerland, notably when wingers cut inside. But Roberts is the type of player who could really catch the eye with those swashbuckling runs of his down the right hand flank.

It was a joy to watch Roberts and Ben Davies dovetailing as overlapping full-backs in the qualifying decider against Hungary. There was simply no fear, one would storm forward, then the other, sometimes the two of them together!

Credit Giggs for taking off the shackles and encouraging the adventurous approach.

Giggs made another huge call to displace record cap holder Chris Gunter with Roberts, as he ripped up the team and tactics put together for years by Chris Coleman.

Not once has Roberts let down the manager.

Another who can stand out at the Euros, see his transfer worth rocket and bigger clubs come in.

RABBI MATONDO (Schalke) age 19

Another youngster Giggs has belief in, he has 10 Bundesliga matches behind him this season following a shock £9.6m move from Manchester City.

Flying winger who will want to increase that transfer value further at the Euros. Should make Giggs' squad, though any likely role will be as an impact substitute if Wales are losing.

NECO WILLIAMS (Liverpool) age 18

Neco Williams has an extremely bright future ahead of him at Anfield

So, could the teen right-back earning rave reviews for his Liverpool performances be the bolter in Giggs' squad?

Williams has four senior Liverpool performances behind him this season and already as good a judge as Ian Rush insists he must go to the Euros.

If so, it would probably need to be at the expense of Gunter.

Williams clearly has greater promise with a huge future ahead of him, but Gunter's experience and know-how isn't something Giggs will be ditching lightly.

Much will hinge on how much further Liverpool game time Williams gets under Klopp in the closing months of the season, in the FA Cup and the Premier League, once the Reds wrap up the title early.

Klopp may choose to rest Trent Alexander-Arnold and hold him back for Champions League games.

If Williams does get a run of games in the best team in the land, it will be impossible for Giggs to resist the clamour.

BEN WOODBURN (Oxford/Liverpool) age 20

Wales' brightest young star of his generation, rated even more highly in the age-grade system than Ampadu, it hasn't quite happened for him since a dazzling Wales debut against Austria when he scored the winner.

A foot injury has wrecked his season on loan with Oxford, but Giggs still has eyes on him and will be monitoring his expected return in the closing weeks of the campaign.

Probably has to come from too far back to make the Euros squad, but there can be no doubting his talent.

Liverpool boss Klopp remains a big admirer, as does Giggs, and the Reds would want a decent fee before letting him go.

If he got a chance to head to the Euros, and it's a big if, he's already proven to have the talent to shine for Wales on the big stage.

MATTHEW SMITH (Man City/Charlton) age 20

Part of the same age-grade side as Ampadu and Woodburn, high hopes have been expected of the Man City youngster.

Has found it impossible to break into Pep Guardiola's packed midfield, spending spells on loan at Twente in the Netherlands, Queens Park Rangers and Charlton.

Looked neat and tidy when handed his Wales opportunities by Giggs, but might find Euro opportunities limited, with Ampadu ahead of him in the pecking order.
