A new Star Wars film is in the works, with a possible Disney+ destination in its future. THR reports that Disney and Lucasfilm have brought in J.D. Dillard (Slight) and Matt Owens (Luke Cage) to write a new film in the franchise. Details on the project are not yet known, but the site says it is unclear if the film will head to theaters or go straight to Disney+.

Disney and Lucasfilm have suggested that theatrical releases for Star Wars are on hold for now, with Bob Iger revealing earlier this month that the franchise’s future was in television where The Mandalorian and now Star Wars: The Clone Wars are holding sway on the Disney streaming service. The Mandalorian has been an undisputed hit for the studios and service, while The Clone Wars just launched but has been earning great reviews from critics. Other upcoming series include the Cassian Andor-centered Rogue One prequel and the Obi-Wan solo series.

Disney does still have three film release dates previously staked out for the franchise: December 16th, 2022; December of 2024; and December of 2026.
