Former top-flight champions take command of FA’s First Division

SAP FC moved to the top of the First Division standings on Thursday following a 1-0 triumph over Potters Tigers when they clashed in Bolans.

Rick Gordon scored the lone goal of the contest when he struck in the 12th minute to hand the former Premier Division champions their 10th win of the season and move them to 34 points from their 16 showings. They are one point ahead of Tryum but have played a game less.

The defeat was Potters’ 13th of the competition as they remain at the bottom of the 12-team standings.

Meanwhile, promotion hopefuls Blue Jays and FC Aston Villa played to a 1-1 draw when they met in Cedar Grove. Stephen Hughes scored for Blue Jays, while Kwame-Ture Kirby was on target for Villa.

The result moves Villa to 29 points and fourth in the standings after just 13 matches, while Blue Jays are fifth with 29 points also.

In the lone Second Division match contested Thursday, Bethesda Bald Eagles and JSC Progressors played to a scoreless draw. Progressors remain second in the Zone B standings with 33 points from 14 matches while Bethesda occupy the seventh slot with 25 points.

Meanwhile, in the ABFA’s women’s competition, national striker Kai Jacobs recorded a hattrick as she led Ottos Tigress against Grenades Ladies by a 3-1 margin. Jacobs scored in minutes 11, 17 and 58. Grenades’ only goal of the match came from Argell London in minute 15.
