Kolkata boy writes board examination from hospital bed

KOLKATA: A 16-year-old boy suffering from pneumonia, who was rushed to the hospital on Friday night, wrote his Madhyamik examination on Saturday. Though weak and unwell, the boy insisted on appearing for the examination even from the hospital.
Howrah resident Jeet Chowdhury, a student of Mohiari Kundu Chowdhury Institution, Andul, was taken by his parents to Narayana Multispecialty Hospital (NMH) at Howrah’s Chanavati late on Thursday night.Satish Gupta, consultant, internal medicine and pulmonology, diagnosed pneumonia. Even as his parents were concerned about his health, Jeet said that he did not want to lose an academic year.
The hospital then approached the Madhyamik Board officials who in turn immediately responded to facilitate the boy. On Saturday, he wrote his history paper from his hospital bed under the supervision of doctors and an invigilator from the board.
“We are thankful to the hospital and the officials at Madhyamik board for making such good arrangement at such short notice so that the student could write his examination,” said Balai Chandra Bhakta, headmaster of the school.
Officials at NMH said they were moved by the spirit and dedication of the boy, which got them to act swiftly so that Jeet did not end up losing an academic year.
