The success of Apple AirPods has made almost every other smartphone and audio brand to capitalise on the potential of true wireless earphones. The proof lies in the sheer bombardment of options. Philips is the latest, launching UpBeat SHB2515 true wireless in-ear headphones for Rs 8,999.

In terms of design, the Upbeat has a compact oval structure that easily fits inside the ear canals. The charging case is bulkier than many others we have used but that is because of the massive 3350mAH power bank. In other words, you can use the charging case to add juice to other devices like smartphones.

The earbuds themselves are compact and lightweight compared to the other earphones in this price range. They offer snug fit as well, thanks to the tiny ear fins that hold the earbuds in place.

The build-quality, however, is disappointing as both the earbuds and charging case are made of plastic, which does not give it a premium look.

However, with 6mm drivers in each earbud, the sound output is more than satisfactory. Vocals are clear and the bass levels punchy and sharp though the decibels could have been better.

But we kept feeling that something was missing and it turned out to be the lack of loudness - felt across every genre of music we listened to.

The battery backup from the earbuds is rated at 3 hours, which hold true to the claim. The charging case also managed to last over 65 hours on a single charge.

True wireless earbuds are quite the rage and Philips has got a product that doesn’t really stand out in the crowd except that it has given a unique charging case and a really good battery life. You may be able to snag the Upbeat SHB2515 at Rs 6,999 on e-commerce sites and at that price, it might just satisfy the need for a pair of truly wireless earbuds.
