The organisers of Rawtenstall Farmers Market are delighted to return this weekend at a new venue, following a one-month hiatus.

The familiar artisan market is back today (February 23) at Rawtenstall Cricket Club from 10am to 3pm, and will be held at the same venue next month.

In January we reported that the popular monthly events, held on the town square on the last Sunday of the month for four years, had come to an end after Rossendale council said the site was no longer available and discussions broke down over an alternative venue.

Lisa Reedy, who co-organises the events with Brian Hood, said: “We are so glad that the guys at the cricket club have come to our aid because three weeks ago we didn’t have a venue.

“I’m so humbled with so much support we have got. Nearly all the traders are going to be there and we have got some new ones as well.

"It’s just across from the square, which is absolutely brilliant.”

The artisan market will run at the Bacup Road venue from 10am to 3pm come rain or shine, with new banners up and parking in the Kay Street car park and nearby.

The market will also be held there on Sunday, March 22.

The venue will not be available during the cricket season.

Roger Hindle, secretary of the cricket club, said: “We are always looking for ways to improve Rawtenstall’s community life.

"We are always happy to support local groups and businesses in their contribution to our thriving town.”
