Bison baseball drops doubleheader with California-Davis

DAVIS, Calif. — The North Dakota State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader matchup with California-Davis, falling 3-2 in both contests.

Bison starter Ben Smith scattered just two hits through the first three innings before the Aggies broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Jonah Henrickson plated the game's first run and was driven in via Alejandro Lara's double.

NDSU responded with a two-run double from Peter Brookshaw to tie the game in the top of the sixth. Davis third baseman Kyler Arenado came through with a single to drive in the winning run in the home half of the inning.

The Bison struck in the first inning of the second game with Jack Simonsen's run-scoring single. Bennett Hostetler homered in the third inning to give NDSU a 2-1 lead. The Aggies tied the score with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth before Arenado delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

The Bison dropped to 2-6 on the campaign. NDSU will face St. Bonaventure for a four-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 28 in Port Charlotte, Fla.
