MIDWAY, Ga. (WSAV) – A man and a family of five are dead following a head-on collision on I-95 early Sunday morning.

According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Jason Colvin, around 2 a.m., the Liberty County 911 issued a “lookout advisory” on a white Lexus traveling southbound in the northbound lane of I-95. Deputies were headed to the interstate when they received another call about an accident that occurred on I-95 at exit 76 in Midway.

When deputies arrived, they found a head-on collision between the Lexus and an SUV with no survivors.

According to the scanner traffic from Liberty County Sheriff, Fire and EMS on “Broadcastify”, the report of the crash came in just seconds after a warning of the car traveling the wrong way.

“We’re going to have a fatality for sure. I need to break a window.”

The driver of the Lexus was killed. GSP Trooper Markus White initially identified the driver as an “elderly gentleman” whose vehicle had Florida license plates. GSP later confirmed the driver was a 77-year-old Milton Lee Long, of Cooper City, Florida.

Two adults and three children were riding in the SUV and were also killed. GSP says the family was from Portsmouth, Virginia. They were identified Sunday night and are named below.

  • Sara Robinson, 41-year-old female
  • Nathan Robinson, 37-year-old male
  • Stephen Robinson, 12-year-old male
  • Rebecca Robinson, 13-year-old female
  • Alexander Robinson, 4-year-old male

GSP says all victims were wearing seatbelts, and they do not suspect the driver of the Lexus was impaired.

The victims of both vehicles had to be extracted from the vehicles by the Midway Fire Department. I-95 was closed for several hours early Sunday.

A vigil was held for the family in Portsmouth, Virginia, Sunday night at their home.

“I was really close with them. I knew them for almost six years. I was really close with Becca. It’s almost our six-year anniversary, and I just miss them so much,” said a neighbor.
