Area basketball roundup: Marty tops FAM in GPC championship

YANKTON -- Marty pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim the Great Plains Conference championship over Freeman Academy/Marion, 67-57, on Saturday.

Marty (16-3): Xavier Hare recorded 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Torrey Bohannon chipped in 10 points and eight boards. Maximillion Zepher grabbed eight rebounds. Alex Cournoyer added six assists and three steals. The Braves host Crazy Horse on Friday.

Freeman Academy/Marion (15-5): Gavin Pankratz had a massive 21-point, 14-rebound double-double. Quincy Blue scored 17 points, Connor Epp added seven assists and Thalen Schroeder recorded four steals. The Bearcats play in the Region 5B tournament, starting March 2.

Corsica-Stickney 67, Burke 55

YANKTON -- Powered by Trever Burke’s 35-point game, Corsica-Stickney took down Burke in boys basketball action on Saturday in the Great Plains Conference tournament.

Corsica-Stickney (14-4): Burke also grabbed six rebounds. Brendan Wentland added seven boards and four assists. Mason Odens pulled down six boards and Jaylen Kemp dished out seven assists. The Jaguars travel to Parkston today.

Burke (14-4): Jaden Frank recorded 30 points and four steals. Tyson Mayer added 13 points and six rebounds. Bryce Frank dished out six assists. The Cougars play Gayville-Volin on Thursday in Bonesteel.

YANKTON -- Tripp-Delmont/Armour took down Gayville-Volin by double-digits in boys basketball action on Saturday at the Great Plains Conference tournament.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (8-11): Micah Lau scored 22 points to go with eight rebounds and four steals. Carson Koehn added 11 points. Logan Van Pelt finished with 12 points and six boards. The Nighthawks play Colome on Friday in Armour.

Gayville-Volin (13-6): Andrew Gustad had a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. Matt Nelson scored 15 points, as well. The Raiders play Burke on Thursday in Bonesteel.

YANKTON -- A 19-point fourth quarter propelled Andes Central/Dakota Christian to a boys basketball win over Scotland on Saturday in the Great Plains Conference tournament.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (8-12): Tyler Swanson had eight points and 15 rebounds. Jaeson Garcia grabbed a game-high 16 boards. Cameron Sybesma scored 14 points and Parker Vander Pol added 10 points. Trevor Timmermans pulled down six rebounds. The Thunder play in the Region 6B tournament, starting March 2.

Scotland (6-14): Mason Dennis added 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Lucas Dennis registered five points and five rebounds. Ty Mogck chipped in seven points and Carson Sundleaf scored five points. The Highlanders play in the Region 5B tournament, starting March 2.

YANKTON -- Hayden Ellis scored 27 points in Centerville’s boys basketball win over Avon in the Great Plains Conference tournament.

Centerville (6-13): Logan Bobzin added 12 points and Hunter Ellis chipped in 10 points. Gavin Gibney grabbed eight rebounds. The Tornadoes travel to Dell Rapids St. Mary on Friday.

Avon (2-17): Trent Raysby scored 10 points. Riley Rucktaeschel finished with 18 points. Logan Schuurmans and Ashton Frank each grabbed eight rebounds. The Pirates host Burke on Friday.

YANKTON -- Alcester-Hudson notched a boys basketball win over Colome in the Great Plains Conference tournament on Saturday.

Alcester-Hudson (5-15): Jaxon Doering finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Alex Winquist added 17 points and three assists. The Cubs play in the Region 6B tournament, starting March 2.

Colome (1-18): Jacob Beckers scored 14 points and Brayden Seegers added 12 points. The Cowboys play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Friday in Armour.

CHAMBERLAIN -- Chamberlain held on to top Mobridge-Pollock in boys basketball action on Saturday.

Chamberlain (9-10): Keshaume Thigh had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double. Cameron Caldwell added 15 points in the win. The Cubs travel to McLaughlin on Friday.

Mobridge-Pollock (12-7): Kregen Norder finished with 17 points. Caden Halsey scored 13 points. The Tigers play Cheyenne-Eagle Butte today in Eagle Butte.
