Just because you do a press release with us you are not going to be cool. You have to build your own tech capability – will be one of the most defining things in the next decade.”

In the last ten years the impact of the mobile revolution and consumer internet were big but narrow, according to him. Speaking about the success of the aggregator business model built by Indian startups he said, “The business model that was most successful was the aggregator business model.”
Technology enablement should be broader in the coming decade he said, “If there’s one criticism I would say it is pretty narrow. Consumer economy is important but its not the only economy. The profit derived from the progress was even more limited. When you look at the next ten years we need broader productivity, broader cross sectoral impact of digital technology.”
Addressing a hall full of industry leaders Nadella said that inclusive economic growth is a key consideration while building technology capability, and it was important for businesses to consider trust in technology especially in areas like privacy, ethics around AI and cyber (security).
