Liverpool overcome a stern challenge to their unbeaten Premier League record with the visit of plucky West Ham to Anfield on Monday.

The Reds had to come from a goal down in the second half to win 3-2 after Pablo Fornals put the Hammers in front shortly after half-time.

Georginio Wijnaldum had earlier looked to have given Liverpool the perfect start, heading home Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross 10 minutes in.

But their lead was short-lived as Issa Diop's header at the other end from Robert Snodgrass' corner just two minutes later crept past Alisson at the near post.

Liverpool had come close to go back in front, with Virgil van Dik's header onto the crossbar their best effort, but they were largely frustrated by West Ham.

Indeed it looked like it could be a bad night at the office when Fornals put the visitors in front.

The Hammers soaked up some early pressure in the second half before Declan Rice centred from a wide position for Fornals to guide a shot past Alisson into the corner.

Suddenly Liverpool's bid for 'Invincible's' status looked under threat, as the Reds rallied in search of an equaliser.

Lukas Fabianski was equal to everything in the West Ham goal, beating away Alexander-Arnold's long-range effort.

But the Polish stopper dropped a clanger to let Liverpool back into the match.

Andy Robertson's run down the left allowed him to cut back for Mohamed Salah to shoot at goal.

His effort never looked to be troubling Fabianski, but the keeper took his eye off the ball as it slipped past him into the net.

Once Liverpool were back level the onus was with them, and you sensed another goal was on the horizon.

Alexander-Arnold was in inspired form, delivering cross after cross into the danger zones, but with no goal to show for it.

Eventually the full-back reacted to a deflected ball in behind, beating Fabianski to the chase and squaring across goal where Sadio Mane was on hand to tap home.

The same two combined shortly after for Mane to score again, but the forward had edged into an offside position.

West Ham had one late chance to earn a share of the spoils, as sub Jarrod Bowen broke clear of the last line of defence.

But Alisson stood tall to thwart his chipped effort, and ensure Liverpool's unbeaten record remains in tact, and leave them four wins off their maiden Premier League title.

Alexander-Arnold reacts

We felt like we dominate the game, but that’s football.

We let them have two chances. They scored from the set piece. That was their best hope of scoring so we’ll need to look at that.

We’re happy with the win but there are a lot of things we have to get right.

The fans were massively with us when we went a goal behind.

We just tried to keep going.

Tougher night for Moyes

West Ham went down fighting, but they’ll be gutted not to come away with a point.

They gave Liverpool their toughest game at Anfield in recent memory - certainly this season.

But the Reds just had enough in the end.

Tough night for the league leaders

But a win nonetheless. Liverpool are now just four points away from the Premier League title thanks to Sadio Mane’s winner to complete that second half comeback, as well as a big helping hand from Lukas Fabianski.

FT: Liverpool 3-2 West Ham

Well that’s all folks.

Liverpool survive the biggest threat they’ve had to their unbeaten run since October’s draw with Man Utd.

Pablo Fornals goal after 55 minutes had put West Ham in front, after they had trailed earlier on.

The goal perhaps came too early for the Hammers, who then had a long time to keep Liverpool out.

But the Reds benefited from a stroke of fortune, as Fabianski flapped in Salah’s tame shot.

That handed the tie back in Liverpool’s favour, and from there you could guess what was coming.

Fabianski came rushing out this time, only to be bypassed by Alexander-Arnold’s cross, which Mane duly tapped in for the winner.

Late free-kick to West Ham in a dangerous position.

This is the chance they were waiting for.

The ball is cleared out, but Noble’s onto it. He fires at goal, but it’s deflected behind for a corner.

Liverpool sub

Joel Matip is coming on for Liverpool to shore up the defence.

Mane is the man to go off, much to his displeasure as he stands on a hat-trick.

Into stoppage time now. West Ham have produced a valiant effort, and will be gutted to leave with nothing to show unless they can nick a late goal.

Bowen breaks beyond Liverpool’s last line and gets one on one with Alisson.

He tries to chip the keeper, but the Brazilian stays tall to force the corner.

Rice flicks the delivery on at the near post, sparking a goalmouth scramble, but Liverpool survive the scare.

NO GOAL!

Mane looked to have sealed all three points with his brace, but the forward had strayed offside.

Alexander-Arnold once again playing a pivotal role on the overlap, sweeping the ball across the face of goal for his teammate to tap home, only to be denied (correctly) by VAR.

Liverpool defend the danger in their own box before Firmino races away.

They opt to play keep ball though as they look to see this game out.

Sub for West Ham

Snodgrass departs and Bowen is coming on. West Ham looking for an equaliser of their own now.

GOAL! Liverpool 3-2 West Ham (Mane, 81)

Liverpool are back in front thanks to Sadio Mane.

Alexander-Arnold bags a well deserved assist. He was quickest to react to the deflected ball in behind.

The defender beat the onrushing Fabianski to the ball, squaring it across goal, where Mane was on hand to turn into the empty net.

Tense times inside Anfield

Fornals almost sneaks in to take the ball away from Alisson. A little close for comfort for the home fans.

Just over 10 minutes remaining at Anfield. Will Jurgen Klopp roll the dice in search of a winner?

He’s got Origi and Minamino among the substitutes.

Haller takes a shot from the corner of the box, but Alisson is equal to it. Hopeful more than anything from the Hammers forward.

Salah gets on the end of a cross at the back post - but Fabianski gets down well to save brilliantly.

The ball ricochets up to the other side of the goal, but Firmino can only head against the woodwork.

Wijnaldum’s centre then comes off an arm but the referee waves away the protests. It was too close to the defender in fairness.

Alexander-Arnold again with a teasing cross in. How many times have we said that tonight?

But again, no touch from a red shirt.

Noble picks out Antonio with a superb first-time pass. The striker is in behind the Reds’ back four, but he can’t control.

He puts his head in his hands in despair.

Well what a shocker from Fabianski. The scores now level, and suddenly the onus is back with Liverpool.

They’ll fancy a winner now, but West Ham seem confident they can find the back of the net again.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-2 West Ham (Salah, 68)

Oh dear. It’s an absolute howler from Fabianski.

Robertson broke down the left, and cut the ball back for Salah who shot towards goal.

It was a tame effort straight at the keeper, but he let it slip past him and in.

Liverpool level.

Diop goes in the book for a foul on Mane. But the free-kick is too close to Fabianski who catches once again.

Haller on

Anderson is replaced by Haller - who has no doubt been tasked with holding the ball up for his side who have been penned in for a good 10 minutes since the goal.

Another corner for Liverpool as the Hammers struggle to clear their lines. Firmino gets up but his header sails over.

He was unmarked, and that is a big chance for the no.9.

Mane goes down in the box but Ngakia got enough of the ball to avoid the penalty.

Alexander-Arnold hits one from distance which Fabianski beats away.

Liverpool are getting closer. Surely West Ham can’t keep this up?

Liverpool pushing West Ham back again.

Robertson this time drilling a cross across the box, but it’s just too high for Salah to get his head on it.
