BTS Headed For Second No. 1 Album, First Top 10 Single In The U.K. With ‘Map Of The Soul: 7’ And ‘ON’

This article is more than 4 years old.

BTS’s Map of the Soul: 7 became the bestselling global album of 2020 immediately following its release on Friday, bolstered by more than 4 million global preorders. Inevitably, the Korean pop septet’s new album is headed straight to No. 1 in a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, where it’s on track to obliterate its competition.

Map of the Soul: 7 tops the U.K.’s Official Charts at midweek, leading both CD sales and downloads, according to a Monday morning report from the company. BTS show no signs of giving up their lead, either, as their new album is outselling the next three albums on the midweek chart—Ozzy Osbourne’s Ordinary Man, Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent and Stormzy’s Heavy is the Head—combined. If Map of the Soul: 7 tops the Official Charts, it will grant BTS their second consecutive No. 1 album in the U.K., following last year’s Map of the Soul: Persona

BTS are also set for a career-high debut on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart, with Map of the Soul: 7’s lead single “ON” cruising for a No. 8 debut, marking their first Top 10 single in the region. The song enjoys a sales and streaming boost from a remix featuring Sia, and both versions debuted in the Top 40 of Spotify’s Global 200 chart on Friday. If “ON” debuts in the Top 10 in the U.K., it will mark the highest-charting single by a Korean act in the chart’s history—a record BTS currently hold with their Halsey collaboration “Boy with Luv,” which peaked at No. 13.

The midweek U.K. numbers for Map of the Soul: 7 mirror the album’s stateside projections, as it’s on track to become BTS’s fourth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. No concrete Hot 100 predictions are available yet, but “ON” seems poised for a robust U.S. debut as well.
