The February 20 letter (a copy of which is with The Indian Express) issued by Punjab’s Department of Home Affairs & Justice, addressed to the secretaries of both central ministries is titled ‘Request for taking steps for removal of songs glorifying liquor, wine, drugs and violence from YouTube and other social media platforms in view of the directions issued by the High Court’.

Citing an HC judgment that directed DGPs of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh to ensure that no such songs are played even in live shows, the letter states, “…You are requested to take up the matter with all concerned to remove all songs glorifying liquor, wine, drugs and violence from YouTube and other social media platforms too in Punjab state as these songs are misleading the younger generation and have a huge impact on school children and college students. A complete ban on such songs is not possible without removing them from social media platforms…”

Fresh complaint against Moose Wala

Festive offer

Meanwhile, advocate Arora on whose earlier complaint Mansa police had booked singers Shubhdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moose Wala and Mankirt Aulakh, has now filed a fresh complaint against Moose Wala for ‘criminal intimidation’ through a song he reportedly sang at a live show in Sangrur on February 10, after being booked and getting bailed out in an earlier case.

In his fresh complaint to Punjab DGP dated February 26, Arora has demanded that Sangrur police register another FIR against Moose Wala because during his live show at Dirba, he sang, “Hun dasso kihda kihda kanda kadna, jatt zamanat tey aaya hoya hai… (Now tell me who are the persons to be eliminated, Jatt has come out on bail)”.
