    The new Delhi police chief SN Srivastava is known as a hard taskmaster with a no-nonsense approach, reports ET's Rahul Tripathi

    • SN Srivastava is a 1985-batch officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.

    • He will replace incumbent Amulya Patnaik, whose one month extension to the post will end on Saturday.

    • Srivastava was earlier posted as Special Director General (Training) with the Central Reserve Police Force.

    • He was ADG (western zone) looking after Jammu and Kashmir in 2016-17 when Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was gunned down.

    • Earlier, Srivastava headed the Delhi Police Special Cell and was instrumental in the arrest of scores of Indian Mujahideen operatives.

    Around 350 spent cartridges found; police raiding criminals' houses

    The preliminary investigation of the Delhi Police in connection with the recent incidents of violence in northeast Delhi suggests that petty criminals had "stocked country-made pistols" and handed them to miscreants and "incited" them to join violence, sources said. As per police sources, 82 people sustained gunshot wounds, out of which 21 succumbed to their injuries including Head Constable Ratan Lal. Sources further shared that one in every three victims suffered bullet injury, according to police data. (Source: ANI)
