Tirupati: 7 arrested in connection with a treasure hunt case

TIRUPATI: Palamaner police arrested 7 persons on Tuesday, in connection with a treasure hunt case reported inside the Doddipalli forest area near Palamaner in the month of February.
It may be recalled that two men who were severely injured and found inside the Doddipalli forest area near Palamaner on February 19 was later admitted to the SVRR government general hospital in Tirupati.
Police who took up investigation into the case got leads that a 11 member treasure hunters gang went on a treasure hunt near a place called Unta inside the Doddipalli forest area on February 12.
The gang later performed some rituals and dug up a certain spot where they believed treasures were hidden.
Later the 11 member gang re-visited the same spot again on February 15 and yet again performed some rituals and dug further deeper at the same spot.
When the 11 member gang were returning back, two members of the gang identified as Ganesh (34) and Jaya Kumar (38) came in contact with electrical fencing set up by local farmers and were left injured.
Palamaner police who recorded the confession statements of the duo admitted to the hospital managed to nab seven more accused treasure hunters identified as Narendra (58), D Harish Reddy (37), K Gurunath (26), Ramesh (34), T Ravi (34), Muneeswar Reddy (25), Bhaskar (50).
Police also arrested three farmers for setting up electric fencing at their agricultural fields illegally. They were identified as Somasekhar (45), Manohar (47) and Lokanadha Reddy (43).
Palamaner Police inspector Sridhar said two others who managed to abscond and identified as Gangi Reddy and Veerabhadra would be nabbed soon.
