Gujarat: Family from Vadodara goes missing after visiting Statue of Unity

The family had left home at 10 am in the morning and had driven to Statue of Unity in their own car. They had also posted photographs from their visit on Facebook and on their family WhatsApp groups.

Kalpesh Parmar along with wife Trupti, his mother Usha and their children Niyati and Atharv aged nine and seven respectively had visited Statue of Unity on Sunday.

Five members of a family from Vadodara allegedly went missing under mysterious circumstances after visiting the Statue of Unity (SoU) in Kevadia Colony of Narmada district. A senior police officer from the district said that the family was last spotted on March 1, Sunday at Krishna Kathiyawadi hotel’s CCTV in Dabhoi, about 35 kilometers from Vadodara.

“They were seen exiting the hotel in their car, after which their phones’ location has not been tracked. Since there is no canal close to Dabhoi road, we suspect that the family may have driven back towards the canal on the Bodeli road or gone elsewhere. We are working hard to crack the mystery,” the officer said.

According to the police, Kalpesh Parmar, his wife Trupti, his mother Usha and children Niyati and Atharv — aged nine and seven respectively —had visited the SoU on Sunday. They had left home at 10 am and driven to SoU in their car. They had also posted photographs from their visit on Facebook and on their family WhatsApp groups.

However, other family members alleged that the five never returned. Their phones have also been switched off since, the police said.

In their last conversation with their families, Kalpesh had informed his cousin that they were planning to go and meet a relative in Bharuch before returning to Vadodara. When Kalpesh’s grandfather tried to contact him on Monday morning, his phone was switched off. He then tried to contact their relative in Bharuch who informed him that Kalpesh and his family never showed up.

Festive offer

Kalpesh’s family members then reached Kevadia Colony and informed the police. A missing persons’ complaint has been registered and investigations are underway.

“They were also captured outside the Nutrition Park. We are examining more CCTV cameras to try and trace them. We are also getting their call details. So far, there is no lead regarding their whereabouts,” said AM Parmar, police inspector in Kevadia.

Kalpesh’s grandfather, Bhailal Parmar said, “He was into computer repairing

business. On Sunday morning, he had informed me that he was going to the Statue of Unity. When he did not return by Monday, I tried to call him but could not reach him. His cousin told me that he was going to Bharuch to meet his sister, but he was not there either. He has never done this before. It’s been three days and there is no trace of him. I don’t know if anyone in the family was facing any issues…”
