Seven of family drown in Gujarat's Tapi river

At least seven people including a five-year-old girl were killed after a boat carrying 13 members of a family capsized in the upstream of Ukai reservoir in Tapi river at Uchhal taluka in Tapi district on late Tuesday evening. Sources said that the incident occurred at Vanjari Bhitkhurd village in Uchhal taluka where 13 family members from Sundarpura village had gone for picnic and went for a boat ride at Vanjara ovara.

SURAT: At least seven people including a five-year-old girl were killed after a boat carrying 13 members of a family capsized in the upstream of Ukai reservoir in Tapi river at Uchhal taluka in Tapi district on late Tuesday evening.
Sources said that the incident occurred at Vanjari Bhitkhurd village in Uchhal taluka where 13 family members from Sundarpura village had gone for picnic and went for a boat ride at Vanjara ovara.

The boat in which they were travelling in capsized mid river. After the incident, the people present on the riverbed managed to save six pepole of the family, while seven people went missing in the deep water.
The fire brigade personnel from Ukai and Bardoli rushed to the spot and started the rescue to find the whereabouts of the missing victims. Meanwhile a body of five-year-old Angel Konkani was fished out by the rescue teams.
The six missing people are identified as Sanjana Konkani, 14, Abhishek Konkani, 12, Aradhya Konkani, 7, Vinod Konkani, 18, Rajesh Konkani, 33 and Urmila Konkani 20.
Police sources said that the search operation for the six victims went on till late at night, but the rescuers were unable to find them.
A senior police officer said, "All the victims are family members and they had come to Vanjara village for picnic on Dhuleti festival. Six people have been rescued while other six are still missing. We also recovered body of a five-year-old girl."
