“With Advancements in Ayurveda, more people are opting for a Natural Approach to Reduce their Blockages” - Dr Rohit Sane
Sunil Patil (name changed), a resident of Navi Mumbai who underwent an angioplasty in 2012, swore never to get a surgery again after experiencing pain during the procedure and the side effects following medication. In 2018, he was again detected with 3 more blockages in his arteries.
This time, he decided to undergo Madhavbaug’s non-surgical Ayurveda based treatment. Cut to today, his blockages have considerably reduced as per his latest CT Angiography reports and symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness have disappeared.
Over the years lakhs of patients like Sunil have chosen to shun angioplasty and bypass and have relied on non-invasive Ayurveda based treatments. We got in touch with award winning Dr Rohit Sane, founder and CEO of Madhavbaug, one of India’s leading Ayurveda based cardiac care chain of clinics and hospitals to understand more about this trend.

With cardiac care being such a sensitive topic, what is driving people to choose non-invasive treatments over bypass & angioplasty surgery?
Over the years there have been a whole bunch of misconceptions around blockages, that today people are more informed about. A blockage is not an emergency; a person can live with a 100% blockage, and still have blood supply to his heart and not get a heart attack. In fact, the biggest myth is that the size of the blockage determines the supply of the blood to your heart. Well, a 50% blockage does not mean that your blood supply to the heart reduces by 50%
While most people believe that in case of blockages, Angioplasty or Bypass are the only option, it is important to note that they have no real benefit over medicine management. There are various global studies that have affirmed this like the COURAGE trails & ISCHEMIA trails (conducted by National Institute of Health and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute)
Nobody can predict a heart attack and blockages have a limited role to play in that case.
Most people are opting for non-invasive treatment because it is painless, cost effective and with zero side effects. There are a lot of complications that may arise post-surgery, the medicines can have various other side effects and the symptoms such as breathlessness and chest pain can appear again.
To Address the Elephant in the room, Do Ayurvedic Non-invasive Treatments Actually Work? Is There Any Science Behind it?
Yes, they absolutely do. We have treated over ten lakh patients over past 16 years across our 2 hospitals and 230+ clinics. At Madhavbaug, our treatments are backed by research. Our research papers have been published in 100+ leading global publications such as British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, Lancet, Indian Heart Journal among others.
Post treatment, patients have seen a reduction in their blockages, which is visible through their IVUS and/or CT Angiography where the actual volume of the plaque is visible. Patients have seen the overall reduction in the size of the blockage after undergoing the treatment successfully.

What Benefits a Patient Gets After A Non-Surgical Treatment?
Our goal is to improve the quality of life of patients with blockages and reversing the blockages is just a part of the process. Post treatment, patients are free from symptoms such as chest pain and breathlessness that make them immobile and are a hindrance in their daily lives. There is no need for side-effect laden medication that may cause other complications. The effect of the treatment is also long term.

Madhavbaug felicitating patients who successfully reduced their blockages after treatment
Our biggest satisfaction lies in the fact that our efforts are yielding results and making a difference to the lives of lakhs of patients every year. However, it is not just the treatments we offer but also educate patients, which is something we strongly believe can help our country tide over the heart disease epidemic. Most people in India fear heart attacks. We recently launched an initiative called Mission Digvijay to make people “conquer” this fear by understanding how they can keep their heart healthy and disease free.
